Digital Literacy is designed to teach students the fundamentals of computers. Through hands-on assignments, activities, and projects, students will learn not only about computer hardware and what to look for when purchasing a computer, they will also learn the fundamental software and tools used in both future schooling and careers. These tools and resources include Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, and more.

Creative Coding

Students have the oppotunity to learn the basics of Javascript, and will finish the semester creating their own online game.

Web Development

Students learn how to problem solve while designing and building their own websites. By the end of the course, each student has a portfolio of web pages and one multi-page website that show basic HTML and CSS skills. This course also helps students explore careers that use programming, including web development.

Students gain experience in everything from basic sewing techniques, tools and materials to sewing collars, sleeves, darts, pleats, gathers, zippers and trim.

Foods I, II

Beginning with building a foundation on the principles of nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle, students learn knife safety, skills and cuts, cuts of meat and preparation techniques, types of salads, sauces and soups as well as etiquette, meal planning and budgeting.

American Sign Language I, II, III

American Sign Language is an introductory class where students will learn a unique language with its own vocabulary, grammar, and structure. Students will learn about ASL’s important role in the visually oriented deaf community and about Deaf Culture.

Learning German introduces you to the lands of ideas and diversity. Germany has Europe’s strongest economy and plays a central role in current issues such as the environment, politics, migration, and 21st-century globalization. Germany is a leader in innovation and creativity and a major force in international business, engineering, and science. German speakers have played a prominent role in literature, art, music, and philosophy. German is one of the world’s major languages and is the most widely spoken language in the European Union after English.

Spanish I, II, III

Twenty-two countries speak Spanish. Learning Spanish can help open doors to job opportunities that you might not have had access to otherwise. Spanish is considered the easiest languages to learn and is much simpler and more consistent than English. The process of learning the language and class activities will keep you on your toes and wanting more.

Fitness for Life

Fitness For Life will enable students to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to develop and maintain a health-enhancing level of fitness and to increase physical competence, self esteem and the motivation to pursue lifelong physical activity. Track 1

This track is designed for students who have been proficient in previous math courses.

All students are placed in the appropriate math class, dependent on teacher recommendation, past success in math, and previous CRT test results.

Track 2

This track is designed for advanced students.

Performing Arts

Band I, II

Band is designed to teach musicians of all levels learn and play music together. Band includes all wind and percussion instruments. We have the opportunity to compete at a nationwide competition each Spring in new and exciting locations. We have traveled, competed and received awards in Seattle, WA, San Francisco CA, Anaheim, CA and San Diego, CA.

Guitar

Guitar is a class for students with little to no experience in guitar. We learn basic chords, tuning, strum patterns and finger picking styles from songs of each students’ choice. Each student is taught at their level and taught individually what they need.

Chamber Orchestra is an audition only group that learns and performs level 2-3+ music. We have the opportunity to compete at a nationwide competition each Spring in new and exciting locations. Master the foundations of acting, hone your improv skills, explore mask work, dive into scene work and leave with a monologue that you can take with you to auditions! This class focuses on performance and gaining confidence as an actor. All experience levels welcome!

Anatomy

Anatomy enables students to develop understanding of the relationships between the structures and functions of the human body.

Zoology

Zoology focuses on studying the animal kingdom. Sutdies include the most simple and primitive organism to the most complex, both invertebrates and vertebrates. Inqury of each animal phylum class includes structures, functions, and habitat of these various animals.

In U.S. History, we will study the history of North America from the first inhabitants through the Civil War. We will specifically focus on the Constitution, using current events to learn how and if the original Constitution is being used correctly in our government, and how it effects us today.

Peer Tutoring

Peer Tutoring is a general classification for a course that allows students opportunities to assist their peers and staff by working in Elementary or Junior High classrooms, the library, front office, or physical education. Students are assigned and supervised by school counselors.

Student Council

With a focus on serving others, student council allows students to get involved in fundraisers, activities and service projects for students in the school and others in the community. This student-run course allows opportunities to develop leadership, communcation, and teamwork skills. The council works to plan student activities, house competitions, service projects and graduation.

Visual Arts

Art Foundations

Students learn the basic elements and principles of art through drawing and exploring painting, sculpture and other art forms and mediums.

7th Grade Elective, 1 Semester

Ceramics I, II

Students learn to create 3D forms and pottery from clay. Students who complete Ceramics 1 and are interested in learning more can enroll in Ceramics 2 and will have the opportunity to make a vase, cup, plate and platter on a pottery wheel.

Drawing

In this course, we develop the technical skill set behind drawing. Our focus is on observation and realism. Students from every level of ability should come hoping to advance their artistic craft. Our main mediums include graphite, pen and ink, and charcoal.

TV Broadcasting

This hands on class explores the practical foundations of film and media production. Students will develop visual storytelling skills as well as an appreciation for the work that goes into the entertainment and media they consume as they create, shoot, and edit several projects throughout the year with a focus on fiction filmmaking, journalism, and advertising.

Graphic Arts I, II

A course designed to introduce students to the practice of graphic design using various Adobe tools. Visual problem-solving is explored, from package design, stationary design, and movie poster design to the concepting and drawing of logos/t-shirt design, among other projects.

Painting

This course allows students to create and explore with water color, tempura, oil and accrylic paints.

Photography

Photography is an introduction to the fundamental principles, techniques and application of camera-based image making. Students explore the development of photography in both technical and creative aspects. Students also become familiar with software basics for photographic imaging and printing.

Sculpture

Students first work on developing 2D drawing skills that prepare them for 3D design. Sculpture processes from many cultures will be explored while using clay, plaster and various building techniques.

Students learn basic principals of yearbook production and develop skills that include writing copy, captions and headlines; digital photography; interviewing skills and using appropriate technology tools for media production.

Career and College Awareness

A course designed to increase awareness of college and career pathways through simulations and project-based experiences. The College and Career Awareness course explores high school, college, and career options based on individual student interests, abilities, and skills. Students will investigate high-skill and/or in-demand jobs in the Utah labor market while developing workplace skills.
