First Grade

I joined Lincoln’s amazing community in 2019, and since then, I have worked or volunteered as a TA, parent volunteer, substitute teacher, student teacher (grade 5), and classroom teacher (grade 1). I have come to love all age groups, but my favorite is always the current grade to which I am assigned.

My credentials include a bachelor’s degree in history from BYU and a master’s degree in teaching elementary education from WGU. I love learning, and I love all subjects, but literacy is my favorite. I marvel in the magic of blending sounds to make words and create meaning. I enjoy getting lost in a good book and carefully crafting my thoughts in creative ways through traditional pen and paper. I look forward to sharing this joy with students in my class as we discover the wonders of reading and writing together.

I believe students learn best when the classroom is designed as a community learning laboratory where all students feel safe to take risks, ask questions, get dirty, collaborate with peers, and invest in their own learning. Developing a growth mindset remains a top priority in my classroom.

When I’m not teaching, you’ll likely find me tending my herb garden, inventing new recipes in the kitchen (soup is my favorite), reading a recommended book, playing chess with my son, video chatting with my grandkids, escaping on a long run, or playing a little violin or piano. My husband and 5 children are my best supporters and greatest cheerleaders. They supply the air beneath my wings.

I can’t wait to meet you and start our adventure together as we reach for the stars!!
