I am a husband and father of two boys. I teach Computers for K-5, Portuguese for 6th grade, Careers & Technology for 6th grade, and I am a TA in Jr. High. During the last 6 years of my career as a Software Engineer, I decided to pursue my own passions. This included two businesses that I now run and also involves my favorite part: teaching. I started giving coding classes to kids a couple years ago and really enjoyed my time doing that. After joining the team at Lincoln Academy, I was happy to jump into any opportunity I could.
I am excited to be teaching this year because I have so many new things planned that the kids will enjoy. I have also increased the depth in all of the lessons, which will be raising the bar for all of the students as they progress through the years. My goal is to get all the kids so prepared every year that the rest of the school needs to raise the bar as well for curriculum.
I try to run a tight ship in class but I want the class to still be a place for kids to express themselves in multiple creative outlets. For computers, students will have the opportunity to try hands-on what it’s like to 3D model, build websites, try graphic designing, and program robots. With this comes incredible exploration opportunities, first experiences imagining a real technical career as a creative outlet, but also a lot of frustration. Technology can be difficult. Sometimes it doesn’t make sense.
Sometimes it doesn’t do what we want. This is the perfect opportunity for them to grow and realize that they can do anything if they really want.
In Portuguese I hold slightly higher standards. These students are in 6th grade and are getting ready to move to Jr. High. I also have a lot of faith in their abilities to learn. My classes are as immersive as permissible by the time constraints. They will be learning how to speak and listen and this will be at a very accelerated rate. This is an incredibly fun language that comes with an incredible culture behind it and I am excited to share all of that with my students.
