Japanese

Japanese is designed to teach students foundational principles of the Japanese language at the middle school level. Guitar

Guitar is a class for students with little to no experience in guitar. We learn basic chords, tuning, strum patterns and finger picking styles from songs of each students’ choice. Each student is taught at their level and taught individually what they need.

Stagecraft is the behind-the-scenes part of theater. In this class, you’ll learn how to create sets, use lights and sound, and build props for plays and performances. Zoology focuses on studying the animal kingdom. Sutdies include the most simple and primitive organism to the most complex, both invertebrates and vertebrates. Inqury of each animal phylum class includes structures, functions, and habitat of these various animals.

Astronomy

In astronomy, you’ll explore space and learn about planets, stars, galaxies, and more. You’ll study the sun, moon, and other objects in our solar system, and even discover what is beyond it. You’ll also learn how scientists use telescopes to observe space and find out about important space missions. Astronomy is all about understanding the universe and the exciting things that happen in the sky!

Peer Tutoring

Peer Tutoring is a general classification for a course that allows students opportunities to assist staff by working in Elementary or Junior High classrooms, the library, front office, or physical education. Students are assigned and supervised by the school counselor.

Student Council

With a focus on serving others, student council allows students to get involved in fundraisers, activities and service projects for students in the school and others in the community. This student-run course allows opportunities to develop leadership, communcation, and teamwork skills. The council works to plan student activities, house competitions, service projects and graduation. This course requires an application.

Art Foundations

7th grade students learn the basic elements and principles of art through drawing and exploring painting, sculpture and other art forms and mediums.

Ceramics I, II

Students learn to create 3D forms and pottery from clay. Students who complete Ceramics 1 and are interested in learning more can enroll in Ceramics 2 and will have the opportunity to make a vase, cup, plate and platter on a pottery wheel.

Drawing

In this course, we develop the technical skill set behind drawing. Our focus is on observation and realism. Students from every level of ability should come hoping to advance their artistic craft. Our main mediums include graphite, pen and ink, and charcoal.

Adobe Photoshop

This course will not only teach you how to manipulate photos using Photoshop’s tools, it will teach you how to use those tools creatively. You’re guaranteed to have fun and create some amazing projects.

This course allows students to create and explore with water color, tempura, oil and accrylic paints.

Students first work on developing 2D drawing skills that prepare them for 3D design. Sculpture processes from many cultures will be explored while using clay, plaster and various building techniques.

Exploring Technology is a comprehensive, action-based, course that introduces students to technology and its impact on society. Students will develop problem-solving skills, improve awareness for College & Career Readiness (CCR ), and build understanding of the relationship between science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Emphasis is placed on broad exploration in cooperative activities rather than individual skill development and projects.
