Noel Kemp
First Grade
I joined the Lincoln community in 2019 as a fourth grade TA, and since then, I have had experience as a TA, parent volunteer, substitute teacher, and student teacher in fifth, fourth, second, and first grades. I have come to love all age groups, but my favorite is always the current grade to which I am assigned. I can’t wait to explore the world, dive into good books, learn through play, and grow with the students in my first grade classroom next year. Yes, I’m still a child at heart.
My credentials include a bachelor’s degree in history from BYU and a master’s degree in teaching elementary education from WGU. I love learning, and I love all subjects, but literacy is probably my favorite. I marvel in the magic of blending sounds to make words and create meaning. I enjoy getting lost in a good book and carefully crafting my thoughts in creative ways through traditional pen and paper. I look forward to sharing this joy with students in my class as we discover the wonders of reading and writing together.
I also believe that students learn best when the classroom is designed as a community learning laboratory where all students feel safe to take risks, ask questions, get dirty, collaborate with peers, and invest in their own learning. In such a classroom, failures will not be viewed as such; but rather as opportunities, fresh starts, or as situations to apply a different strategy. In addition, helping my students develop a growth mindset and seeing themselves as contributing members of our classroom community will be top priorities in my classroom.
When I’m not teaching, you’ll likely find me tending my herb garden, inventing new recipes in the kitchen (soup is my favorite), reading a recommended book, playing chess with my son, video chatting with my grandkids, walking at the dog park with my husband and dog, Tahoe, or playing a little violin and piano. My husband and 5 children are my best supporters and greatest cheerleaders. They supply the air beneath my wings.
